Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. has provided guide dogs free of charge to blind people who seek enhanced mobility and independence. We have successfully trained hearing-impaired blind people as well as many physically challenged people. We are supported entirely by donations from generous individuals, corporations and foundations. We receive no government funding. In 2009, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind became the first assistance dog school in the world to be certified by the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International. It is the only assistance dog school in the United States to receive dual accreditation by these two international bodies.

Salvation Army
Quarter 3 - July 2010
https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/
The Salvation Army’s Back to School program started about 13 years ago and continues to be a success each and every year. The goal is to identify school aged children in need and provide them with a new backpack, supplies and a gift card to use for a new outfit. Parents have the opportunity to share the school shopping experience with their children without the financial worries. The gift cards are tracked to confirm that the purchases are back to school items. Many of the children that benefit from this program are surrounded by hardships and each day is full of unexpected challenges. A new backpack and a new outfit go a long way in boosting a child's spirit and building confidence. In an average season, we provide assistance to over 200 children. In addition to helping many Salvation Army families, we share this opportunity with several other non-profit agencies such as the Moore Center, Families in Transition and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Although we would like to open this program to the public, there are not enough backpacks to go around so instead, the Caseworkers choose the children in the most need which brings peace of mind to all involved.
