Could I Be a Healthcare Recruiter? 6 Qualities of Successful Medical Recruiters

IMG_5486.jpg

Looking for a new job in the southern New Hampshire or Massachusetts area? Why not consider becoming a healthcare recruiter?

You may be asking, "But what does a healthcare recruiter do?" In a nutshell, medical recruiters help connect healthcare professionals such as nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, and similar professionals with permanent or travel/contract job opportunities.

But maybe you feel like you don't have enough experience to be a healthcare recruiter. That's okay! Some recruiter career openings are available to recent college graduates as well as seasoned professionals from other industries who are looking for a change.

CoreMedical Group offers a training program that we feel sets up our team members for incredible success, no matter their previous experience. But you should naturally possess certain qualities to be a successful healthcare recruiter, such as:

1.  Great communication skills, especially on the phone.

Are you a friendly person who loves talking to people? As a healthcare recruiter, you may be making more than a hundred calls per day. It is essential that you have great communication skills and are comfortable with talking to anybody over the phone.

2.  A great memory.

A great memory is a huge advantage for a medical recruiter. We have a few people on our team who once worked as servers in restaurants. Their memory skills were easily transferable to recruiting. As a recruiter, you will be speaking with many different healthcare professionals in one day who all have different needs. It is very important to have an excellent memory so you can provide them with the best customer service. Having great listening skills goes hand-in-hand with this. Great computer skills are also an important asset!

3.  A very competitive nature.

At healthcare recruiting firms like CoreMedical Group, we maintain an atmosphere of friendly competition with each other and with other healthcare staffing firms. We also want to continue being one of the best staffing companies in the country! If you have a naturally competitive nature, recruiting for a healthcare staffing firm may be the perfect career for you! Many of our team members played sports in college and continue to be actively involved in sports leagues. They are motivated by competition and are always performing their best to outmatch the competition!

4.  Willingness to work more than 40 hours a week.

Many medical recruiters work beyond the typical 40 hour work week. Recruiters usually spend 40-plus hours a week in the office and may work either in the office or from home after office hours. This is because some medical candidates are unable to talk on the phone during the day while they are taking care of patients. Some evening availability is a must.

5.  Resilience.

As a nursing or allied health recruiter, you may experience a lot of rejection. A placement may fall through for one reason or another; it happens! You can't let it get you down. You must be able to stay positive and bounce back quickly from the negative experiences and focus on the positive. Sometimes candidates and jobs won’t match up well, but when they do, it's incredibly rewarding!

6.  Diligence.

You must be incredibly hard working to be a successful recruiter. When you give it your best every day, you will experience great results! It is rewarding for us as a business to watch our team members grow with us personally and professionally through hard work.

The following is not required, but is incredibly helpful if you wish to recruit medical professionals as a career:

Marketing, sales, or customer service experience.

It's very helpful for a healthcare recruiter to have marketing or sales experience, or to have a degree in sales, business or marketing. Much of your job will include marketing jobs to nurses and allied health professionals, or marketing those medical professionals to healthcare facilities. The job is also very customer service oriented, so if you have that experience in your background, be sure to mention it if you're applying to be a recruiter!

At CoreMedical Group, we offer healthcare recruiters a lucrative career path where their personal and professional development is encouraged and nourished. In addition to offering unlimited earning potential, we offer some of the best benefits in the industry, including the ability to earn a free, all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean every year.
